Best of Layered Rugs

February 15, 2017

I can't get enough of a good layered rug situation so I decided to gather a few of my favorites from Pinterest and share them with you. I love the depth and personality that it can give to a space and it's not just limited to one room in your home!

This duo of jute/sisal and a vintage rug is great for high traffic areas like an entry, hallway or mudroom.

You can create different moments when layering rugs.

Layering with neutral organic textures like above creates depth and boldness but can still have an overall clean look.

Moroccan or vintage rug..can't decide? Layer with both and choose a sofa or chair that pulls out one of the beautiful hues in your rug! (PS: Glass coffee tables are great when you're looking to really showcase such beautiful textiles and creates an open feel)

Pelts are always great for layering!

Another beautiful moment created by a natural and vintage rug duo.

If you found a rug that you love and want to use in your space but may be just too small for the space you'd like to put it in, layering rugs is the perfect solution like in this dining space above.

Same type of situation in this space like above. Loving how much depth a vintage rug can have in a space and pick up many different hues throughout a room.

Layer a vintage rug over a vintage rug? Why not. Choose two different scales of patterns like above and you can't go wrong. This especially works best when the rest of the space is more simple leaving the rugs to really feel like the focal point.

And I'll end with this bedroom because...the rugs..the light fixture..the ceiling..the windows..the natural light..you get it right? Hope you enjoyed and learned a little, too. Until next time...

January 27, 2017

Blush is a color that is making a big statement in the design and fashion world and I am not complaining one bit. You may have seen this color around quite a bit lately and it's only becoming more popular - on furniture, decorative items, art, textiles, and the list goes on. Here is a grouping of items I have sourced for you and some inspiration found on Pinterest that incorporates this beautiful, soft, lush hue including a paint palette that I am obsessing over. Which blush inspiration is your favorite??

DIY Valentine's Day Garland

January 20, 2015

With the help of Michael's and Pinterest I was able to create my very own and very easy Valentine's Day garland under $7! If you'd like to know how to DIY then this is what you will need:

- Hemp string
- Mini V-Day clothespins (I used a set of 8)
- Small wooden hearts painted with chalk (came in a set of 12)
(or plain ones and you can paint them yourself but you
can get them already painted at Michael's)
- Chalk (white or any color you'd like)
- Tape or hooks to hang your garland

1) I already had hemp string so I decided to go ahead and tape the string under my display
shelf the length I wanted it -- we don't have a mantle otherwise you can hang it on there with hooks (or tape, too).

2)  I only had 8 clothespins in the set I purchased so I needed to spell out something with 8 letters -- very conveniently I Love You just fit. I then spread out the hearts and wrote
a letter with the chalk on each one.

3) My hearts came with a little hole already in it on top but because I was using the clips
there was no need to put the string through the hearts -- I just clipped each one
to the string with the clothespins (and I did every other one red and pink). You can
adjust the hearts to where you want them on the string making sure it is centered. DONE!

Michael's always has coupons going on so that's how I was able to create mine for under $7 which was quite a score. There's many cute ways to decorate for Valentine's Day without going crazy -- this garland and my heart bowl planter from my last post are just a couple of them. Happy DIYing!

A Touch of Gold: Using Gold in Interior Design

September 10, 2014

I've been seeing a lot of designs lately with a touch of gold leaving a space looking stylish, fresh and beautiful. I've always loved this look but it's something I've been seeing much more recently. I love all white spaces mixed with a little gold or antiqued brass - it really makes so much of a difference and adds interest to a room. It can be mixed with eclectic, chic, modern or any other design style you may love - it can just work. It doesn't have to be as feminine as you may think either - it can be just as gender neutral. Here are some pictures I found on pinterest that exemplify this exceptional style.

Here the use of black, white and gold pillows adds a collection
of patterns & textures to this living area.

I'm absolutely in love with this kitchen from top to bottom.
There's not a lot of warm tones other than the dark hardwood
so the use of brass knobs and copper tins on the counter is just
the right touch.

These gold pendants pull the whole look of this kitchen together. Stunning.

A sophisicated yet fun dining space with touches of gold with
the rod and artwork. Gold, white & navy are an amazing combo in
design, as you can tell.

Absolutely love the rustic counters and wall mixed with gold & metal.
The apron sink is the cherry on top.

Pretty much loving everything about this bedroom. From the wallpaper
to the hanging pendant - it's so eclectic & unique.

An overall white space looks exceptionally put-together with
some gold accents - don't ya think?

I know, all these pictures are making you fall in love, right?
I'm loving these spaces and as you can see it only takes a lamp, a lighting
fixture, pillows, knobs, or a rod in a metallic gold to create such a look - no need to
go crazy with it. Which space do you like the most? Happy gold decorating!
