A Not-So-Teen RH Teen Bedroom

I have to say I've had my eye on some (many) pieces from the RH Teen assortment for quite some time now. Working for Restoration Hardware, I get to help create dream spaces for clients and their homes. I don't include RH Teen as often as I could for a few reasons - we don't showcase it in our gallery, many of my clients are looking for our core brand or RH Modern pieces for their home, and clients just don't know about it. When I do introduce the line to clients, they are blown away because there are so many amazing pieces that are offered that aren't only for teens. The line is meant to be sophisticated and transitional for the younger generations - something they can love now and love later. Not to mention, many of these pieces are at a lower price point than RH main brand. I've put together a bedroom (because...why not?) that I would happily live in myself. RH is known more for their effortless way to use symmetry to create balance. For me, I like to create eclectic spaces that are balanced, not symmetrical, with a play on different textures and materials. I'd say this bedroom does just that. What do you think? :)

Design Update: Coffee Tables for my Living Space

Hi! It's been some time...I swear I thought I'd be getting better at posting more often but I am back! My last post was a while back in January and much has happened since then. I've set up my desk area in my bedroom, I've been tackling self-teaching myself AutoCad, and I'm stepping more into design at my job with RH...plus my cute-as-heck Goddaughter is now 10 months old! I have to say, I don't know how some people do it -- working full time, taking classes, have kids, etc. When I have those thoughts, it motivates me even more to go after what I want...now...and not wait. So that is what I am doing. Now, the next step for me in my apartment (yes it's been baby steps for a while but I'm not the only one, right?) is selecting a new coffee table. I've been on the search for a while and it's not that we don't love our coffee table now, but we need a larger one that's in proportion with our sectional that we can eat on -- we rarely use our actual kitchen table. SO...here are some options I've been looking at and I've thrown in a photo to get a better idea of my current space. Which one is your favorite? 

1 / peekaboo acrylic coffee table / cb2 / $279

 I am loving this see through option because it will keep my space 

feeling larger. Lucite can also work with many different design styles which

is great if I want to switch things up although this particular piece

is only 13.5" high and a little low to eat on.

2 / slab marble coffee table / cb2 / $299

I just know this piece will go with everything in my home. The metal base is 

a touch industrial and the marble top keeps it looking chic and classic.

3 / kyra coffee table / crate and barrel / $599

A glass option could work in my space, I especially love the bottom

shelf on this piece. Because we eat on our table so often though

I may need something more durable than glass.

4 / aquitaine coffee table / joss + main / $234

This is a more industrial looking option than I usually would choose but I 

know my boyfriend would love it. The mix of metal and wood would

also go with our space but I am slightly afraid of it making it

too industrial looking because we already have other wood elements.

5 / marble box frame coffee table / west elm / $599

I've always been drawn to this table and I love the contrast of the marble

and bronze base. The base keeps it extra open and I can see myself using 

baskets underneath for storage if I need to. I'm just still a bit skeptical

of marble due to it's porous nature especially when eating and drinking on it.

Lastly, here is our current living room. Our sofa isn't super permanent but it 

does the job and is comfortable. Our current coffee table is the Origami Coffee Table 

from West Elm. I'm debating on switching out our rug also because I prefer a higher, 

softer pile but the boyfriend and I agreed on this flatweave so we went for it. I would love

a coffee table that would stay with us for a while and around $600 or less (including delivery).

Fun Home Office Design

So I've been dreaming of having an office of my own instead of taking over our dining room table which is what can happen what you live in an 800 sq foot apartment. I know one day I will get there but designing a clients office of her own had me dreaming even more so I decided to share this work in progress with you. What I love about this space is the color scheme and simple touch of the beach. Other than that, this office is timeless yet super chic. Did I mention I only had a 10x10ft space to work with? Not my dream size but you'll see why I'm loving it so much...

My idea is to have the Sherwin Willams Aquatint paint color on the wall where the bookcases will be as an accent wall. the two walls where the two desks are will have the neutral chevron wallpaper. The wall art and decorative accessories in the minty accent color will tie the whole color scheme together throughout the space. I can't wait to see how it all comes together in person! Favorite Boho Pillow Finds

Boho pillows have been trending for quite some time now. To me, they look like they have a story and they really add character to a space. I've had my eye on all of these attractive pillows for a while but there are so many to choose from and quite frankly I just don't have all the space in my 800 square foot apartment for them all! Some that I picked out are authentic mudcloth pillows and totally worth the splurge. On the other hand the boho style pillows from Target by Nate Berkus gives the same look at a budget friendly cost. The new Steven Alan pillows making their way into west elm right now for summer has me drooling -- I'm in love with the rich blue hues with a touch of yellow. I've also picked out a few local brand pillows -- I love supporting my own community! Bottom line though, I'd love a second opinion on which pillows to buy! Which one's are your favorite?

My Dream Home: Living Room

It's been a while since I've created a mood board for the fun of it so when I started to find a ton of items on my favorite sites I figured I had to pull some of these items together. I've been in love with the Hamilton Sofa from west elm since they came out with it last summer -- the tan, aniline leather is gorgeous and soooo soft -- you really have to go check it out if there's a west elm store by you. I've been dying to get my hands on some pillows from Lulu & Georgia -- if you haven't seen their selection of textiles you need to do that. right. now. Okay, maybe after reading this post. I'm also a sucker for navy, turquoise and anything black and white so that led me to create the color scheme you're about to see. My heart also aches for items made of natural materials such as marble, reclaimed wood, jute, rattan...as you can see. So I decided to create a living space that just screams me. Antique brass accents make me pretty darn happy, too. Here's a mood board that displays this look with the links to the items below. You're welcome :)

There it is. Did you fall in love with any of these items like I did? There were too many online to choose from so next up I'll be putting together my dream dining room. I didn't follow a budget when picking these items -- I normally wouldn't spend $400 on a wall sconce but it's all about the look. Depending on what else is going on in your space I really do believe it's worth splurging on an item or two that you love and then be frugal with the rest in order to stay on budget. Like the wall art in this space -- you can definitely DIY and get the same look. You really should love everything you have in your home so to me it's totally worth it to mix the high and the DIY (that's a pretty clever saying, actually). A Touch of Gold: Using Gold in Interior Design

I've been seeing a lot of designs lately with a touch of gold leaving a space looking stylish, fresh and beautiful. I've always loved this look but it's something I've been seeing much more recently. I love all white spaces mixed with a little gold or antiqued brass - it really makes so much of a difference and adds interest to a room. It can be mixed with eclectic, chic, modern or any other design style you may love - it can just work. It doesn't have to be as feminine as you may think either - it can be just as gender neutral. Creating an Eclectic Space

Ever wonder how some designers are able to create a space that mixes design styles so well? Eclectic design allows the mix of one design style with others - modern, mid-century, industrial, vintage can all be placed together & the list goes on.  In essence, it creates the look that you have collected all of your items over time. However, there is a method to the madness - it's all about balance. You don't want to add too many different styles or the space will be overwhelming. Here are some rooms I've designed so you can see how this style just works. They are just as eclectic in style as they are in budget. I've mixed some budget-friendly pieces with items that are definitely worth the splurge.

This bedroom has a mix of boho chic, mid-century, transitional and modern. There are clean, modern lines in the bed paired with soft, round items in different styles. Yes, this room may be more on the girly side with the floral jute rug  but easily swap it out for a solid one and it can be gender neutral as well.

Glam meets rustic in this dining room. I chose a sparkly chandelier that makes a statement to pair with this rustic, reclaimed pine table. Pairing the table with leather captain chairs and more modern side chairs gives this space the ultimate eclectic look. Top it off with a colorful, global inspired rug and it's a win.

Mid-century, modern, and industrial are a few of the main design styles in this living space that I chose. I love the mix of the industrial coffee table with the natural fiber jute rug. The tapered legs on the side table and sofa give it an edgy, mid-century touch that is just what the space needs. I added a pair of luxe velvet pillows in a bold color that gives the room a much needed color pop.

Greek Key: Trendy Yet Timeless

Greek key has been around but it has never looked so chic. Technically it has two meanings - A decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif and the symbol of eternal love, life and friendship. The traditional greek key motif may vary from item to item but once you see it, it will stand out to you. Greek key looks fabulous on pretty much anything you can think of when it comes to your home - bedding, curtains, accent pillows, furniture, shower curtains and even wastebaskets...yes, really! Homegoods Happy Finds

Homegoods seriously has everything you could need in your home when it comes to home decor. I took a trip to Homegoods yesterday to hopefully find some goodies for a DIY project for my valentine (I'll post more on that soon so I won't spoil the surprise!). While browsing the store I came across some items that stood out to me because, well, they were just so me. Some were this gorgeous hemlock color (which is one of the colors in Pantones Spring 2014 color forecast) so I thought I would share my happy finds with you. Do you have any Homegoods items in your home that make you happy??

This lamp has a gloss finish. The color and shape looks like a lamp you could find from Bungalow 5. 

I love, love, LOVE this knit pouf. It's white and gray so will match about any color scheme and look perfect in your living space. I picture one or two under a glass coffee table so they can be stored and then pulled out for seating when needed.

I always see mirror trays like this online especially on LaylaGrace.com which are a pretty penny but this one is only $24.99!

These hemlock and white patterned pillows are only $24.99 for the two! Great for indoor or outdoor use.

I love the look of natural materials and this hand carved basket is perfect. There were also stools and trays. 

What girl doesn't like a pretty jewelry box?? This one is a pretty cream/gold pattern covered in acrylic glass.

I'm such a fan of quatrefoil and have seen lamps just like this in Arteriors for a good chunk of money. This one is only $49.99!

For $12.99 this coral decor is perfect for a coastal look! The base is a beautiful hemlock acrylic glass. This would look great displayed on your coffee table or bookshelf.

I wish I got the price on this piece but if I can recall it was no more than $100! Such a cute little garden stool you can use outside or as an accent table/nightstand in your home.

I could spend hours in Homegoods and come out with a bunch of things I probably didn't even need but it would all be worth it! Don't ya think? :)
